As the Mayor of Buckeye and the Chair of the Maricopa Association of Governments Regional Council, one might wonder why I am promoting exporting. There are a number of good reasons. People may not realize Buckeye is located just 356 miles from the port in Los Angeles. This proximity to California means that exporting and freight are essential to the future growth of Buckeye, as well as the Sun Corridor. Our rapid population growth in Buckeye and throughout the region means we are very interested in how we can grow high wage jobs for our residents. Jobs in exporting have higher average wages.

For these reasons and more, I invite you to join the 2018 EDGE (Economic Development for the Global economy) Program.

The 2018 Sun Corridor EDGE Program celebrates and supports businesses that are selling to international markets. Businesses of all sizes and in all sectors are invited to apply for this program by February 28, 2018. Businesses in Maricopa, Pima, and Pinal Counties are encouraged to apply at www.jpacaz.org. Please join us on April 26, 2018 as we highlight the businesses that are showing the world that the Sun Corridor is open for business. Businesses that join the EDGE Program may also participate in one of two ExporTech boot camps. All their costs will be reimbursed when they develop their export plan and complete the three month class. Assistance is also available to help them go to market, such as attending trade shows in other countries.

This work is made possible thanks to a grant from the Federal Highway Administration and the Arizona Department of Transportation, as well as through the partnership of regional planning agencies and economic development organizations in the Sun Corridor.
